Love is in the air, and in your touch…
“Who among us doesn’t want to feel loved? Finally to be able to be ourselves just as we are, to feel cherished, cared for, and protected – this has been the pursuit of humans since the beginning of recorded time. We are social animals. We depend on other people. We need other people.” (from “Wired for Love” by Stan Tatkin)
We are literally wired for relationship. Oxytocin, the “love and connection hormone” and neurotransmitter produced in the pituitary gland rises in both men and women’s blood and brains and lowers cortisol, the “stress hormone” as well as blood pressure when we kiss, hug or have sex. (Dr. Sara Gottfried,“The Hormone Cure”.)
But it takes a good hug – one that lasts 20 seconds to release oxytocin. And research suggests that it takes 8 hugs a day to create positive change.
Research has also shown that Deep-Tissue Massage also raises oxytocin levels and lowers cortisol.
So, get hugging and reserve your gift certificate for your love (and that includes you)!!
